What can I make with my meat grinder?

Your food grinder attachment for your KitchenAid mixer allows you to create meals from scratch, without mystery ingredients. Get creative with wholesome meals, fish, veggies, beans, breads and more. Here are some ideas on what you can make. Note: Some are only possible with the addition of the optional extension packs for the grinder (sausage stuffer, food strainer, cookie press).

Grind meats for burger patties, meatballs, or bolognese. Beef, pork, duck... and add seasoning or garlic.

Start grinding! How to assemble your food grinder

Put the grinder together and pop in your chosen grinding plate - here's how to get going....

Assemble the parts

Firstly, insert the grind screw into the main housing and place the blade over the end of the grind screw.

Choose a plate

Pick the coarse or fine grinding plate and place it over the blade, matching the notch with the tab on the housing.

Secure it to the mixer

Now place the collar on the main housing, turning clockwise by hand until secured, but not tightened.

Plug it in

Remove the attachment hub cover and insert the shaft. Now tighten the attachment hub until it's completely secured.

Start grinding

Prepare your ingredients, cutting food into strips or small pieces that fit in the feed tube. Turn the stand mixer on to Speed 4, and feed food into the tube using the food pusher.

Finish grinding

Once you're done with grinding, you can move on to stuffing! Remove the collar by turning it counter clockwise.

Assemble the stuffer

Remove the grinding plate and blade and replace them with the sausage stuffer plate.

Insert the tube

Insert your chosen stuffer tube (large or small) through the collar, and place them on the main housing, screwing to tighten.

Feed in mixture

Feed some sausage mixture into the grinder before sliding the casing on the stuffer tube (this will stop air pockets).

Slide on casing

Grease the tube and slide your casing over, leaving 10cm to tie off at the end. Turn the mixer to Speed 4 and slowly push the sausage mixture in.

Stuff and finish!

Hold the casing firmly as it fills, until you have about 10cm left to tie off. Turn off the mixer and you're done! Pinch and twist the sausage into lengths.

Your guide to grinding: parts explained

Coarse grinding plate (6mm)

Select the coarse grinding plate when grinding raw meats for burgers and chili, and veggies for salsas and sauces.

Fine grinding place (4.5mm)

The fine plate is best for preparing cooked meats for spreads, as well as hard cheeses, breadcrumbs and more.

Large sausage stuffer (19mm)

The large tube should be used with the coarse grinding plate to make bratwurst or larger sausages. *Only with the sausage stuffer extension.

Small sausage stuffer (9.5mm)

The small tube should be used with the coarse grinding plate for breakfast sausages and smaller types *Only with the sausage stuffer extension.

Strainer cone, strainer shield and splash lid

The optional strainer parts can be used to create sauces, chutneys, hummus, jams, baby food and fruit butters. *Only with the food strainer extension.

Cookie cutter & biscuit moulder

Add on the cookie cutter and biscuit moulder to make 5 different shapes of pretty piped biscuits. *Only with the cookie cutter extension.

How to clean your meat grinder

Keep making food at home from scratch by taking good care of your food grinder. Turn off the stand mixer and then remove the attachment before following the cleaning steps below.

Take it apart

Disassemble by unscrewing the collar, removing the grinding disc, blade and grind screw.

Hand wash some parts

Clean the main housing, grind screw, grinding plates and blade under warm, soapy water.

Dishwasher-safe parts

The food pusher, collar and removable tray can all be washed in the dishwasher (top rack only).

Note

Allow the appliance to cool completely before putting on or taking off parts or carrying out cleaning.
