Your stand mixer is adjusted at the factory to be the perfect height for optimum mixing, but through time, shipping and use, it can change and require adjustment. If this is the case, you can correct the clearance easily yourself.
Signs that the bowl clearance needs to be adjusted:
-
If the paddle is too high, it cannot reach and incorporate the ingredients.
-
If the paddle is too low, it can hit the bottom of the bowl and the white coating can chip off the bottom of your beater.
Here are the steps for how to adjust the bowl clearance:
- Turn the mixer to “0” (off) and unplug.
- Place the bowl-lift lever in the down position to reveal the screw.
- Adjust by turning the screw so that the paddle (flat beater) just clears bottom surface of the bowl when in lifted position. Turn the screw counterclockwise to raise the bowl and clockwise to lower the bowl. NB: Just a slight turn is all that is required: the screw will not rotate more than 1/4 turn (90 degrees) in either direction. (The full range of adjustment is 1/2 turn, or 180 degrees.)
NOTE: When properly adjusted, the paddle (flat beater) will not strike on the bottom or the side of the bowl. If the paddle or the wire whisk is so close that it strikes, the beater or whisk may wear.
