My machine has overheated so what do I do?

If your KitchenAid espresso machine overheats, don't worry. The Semi automatic espresso machine with burr grinder is equipped with a system to troubleshoot this situation.

There could be several reasons which you can find below:

Cause Solution
The espresso machine's NTC temperature control detects that the temperature of the thermocoil is higher than it should be. The machine will automatically pump water (approximately 100 ml) in order to cool down and will go into shutdown mode. Wait 5 minutes before restarting.
The temperature of the heating element does not fall to the required temperature after the pump water cools down. Let the heating element naturally cool down. Allow the machine to go automatically into shutdown mode and then restart after 5 minutes.
The machine was restarted after being unplugged and the temperature is still not below the required temperature. The machine will still be in the alarm state if it's restarted too soon. Allow 5 minutes before turning on the machine again.
